Garden gate
Hard to find a readymade garden gate
New entry to the garden through garden gate and rose arch
Ida’s garden must be closed, so Ida cannot exit the garden while she is too little to mind the traffic on the road. Therefore it is necessary to put up a fence and a garden gate towards the driveway. The garden architect recommended that we put up a rose arch by the staircase to the garden and we have tried to find a readymade solution that combines a garden gate and a rose arch. However that was not an option.

No garden gate in the garden centre
Few garden centres sell quality garden gates. They have various types of fences, but no actual readymade gate. We tried to order a garden gate online but the selection is not very large, therefore the best solution probably is to make the garden gate from scratch. Time being a limited resource; however, we decided to order a finished garden gate out of wood and a rose arch out of metal to mount in front of the garden gate.

The garden gate posts should be concreted into the ground
Gate posts should be concreted
The gate posts should be concreted into a hole of approximately 50 cm’s deep. The most bothersome part of the work is often drilling the holes – it depends on the quality of the soil. Lumber posts should be treated or suitable for inground application. It is recommended to attach two pieces of thin lumber boards horizontally on the gate posts, securing the proper distance, while the cement dries.

Painting the garden gate
We painted the new garden gate green – the same colour as the woodwork on the house. The green colour is well-suited to the plants, much the way that green candles look good in Christmas arrangements.
